CareerHistory: Marcus interned with Virgon Star lines while still in university during the summer, working for the Chief Engineer of the Shangri-La the summer before the ship began operations and the two summers afterward. Upon graduating from university he joined the crew as a 3rd Class engineer and worked his way up to 1st Class at the time of the attacks, directly under the Chief. When the attacks happened the Chief was on vacation visiting family back in Caprica City, and Marcus was tapped to fill his position by the Captain.
Other Personal History:Marcus grew up the son of a spacesport cargo handler and homemaker, and went to college on an academic scholarship. From an early age he was interested in taking things apart and putting them back together, and was fascinated by the big spaceliners he saw in his father's work. It was a natural progression for the bright student to follow that interest into a career as a starship's engineer.
He never forgot the blue collar background he came from even with a professional degree under his belt and the hefty paycheck he pulled down as a starship engineer. Marcus works hard and likes to play hard too, and isn't one to back down from a fight. He will back his people up 110% in public and is very proud of the job they've done keeping the ship operational the past three years.
Marcus was briefly married to Amanda Jackson, daughter of a wealthy landowner back home on Aerilon. The two had fallen in love with each other during college but after he started his career in space the marriage quickly soured and were divorced within three years, finalized just before the attacks.
