Personality

Jake is a friendly and outgoing person, always ready to lend a hand to those who need it. Due to his rank and position he tends to keep his personal opininons to himself unless with friends and colleagues, which might give off the impression of him being reserved or cold to those who don't know him well.

After the fall of the Colonies Jake buried himself in his work and mourned the loss of his wife in private, feeling that duty was all he had left. Over the next three years he gradually came back out of his shell and allowed himself to have a life outside of duty.


Biography

Born into a family with a long tradition of naval service, first in the navy of the Tauron Empire and later the Colonial Fleet, Jake is the son and grandson of Admirals. His grandfather Alexander Mackenzie retired after the 1st Cylon War after serving as a Fleet Admiral during that conflict, and Jake’s father David fought in both that war and the Tylium Wars. David ultimately rose to the position of Chief of Naval Operations, and had been retired for five years by the time of the holocaust.

His family was loving, but he inherited a strong competitive streak and the desire to measure up to the high standards set by his father and grandfather. Mackenzies are brought up with a strong values of tradition, honor, and duty, and it was expected that he would follow in the footsteps of those who came before him and join the fleet when he was old enough.

By the time he graduated high school Jake had lived on fourteen different military bases on ten of the tweleve Colonies, but had maintained his affinity to Aerilon through summers spent on his family's ancestral farm in Ostia province.

Jake attended Tuaron Military Science Academy at Gladius Cross after graduating high school. He was the third generation of his family to attend TMSA and was an honor graduate, ranked 2nd in his class and was the Cadet Corps XO his senior year. Unlike his father and grandfather he did not achieve the rank of Cadet Corps Commander, a source of disappointment for his father that secretly made Jake feel he had let the family down.

While a student he was a member of the pyramid team and helped it reach and win the Colonial academic league championship game his senior year, the first time the school had done so since his grandfather had attended.

He was introduced to Bridget Reese in his freshman year at a party thrown by his classmate and friend Jill Simmons. It was love at first sight and the two were married shortly after they graduated their respective universities. Tragically their marriage was cut short five years later, when Bridget and her parents were killed by a drunk driver while she was visiting them on Aerilon. Jake was on deployment at the time, and it took over a day for him to return to make arrangements for her funeral.

Bridget's death shattered Jake, and he took the full amount of leave allowed before returning to duty. The fun loving, jovial Jake had been replaced by a colder more formal man devoted to duty and little else for the first year after his wife's death.
