Basic Rules of the community
(Mods note: We know some of these might seem a little strict or over the top, but they come from experience, trust us.)
1) You MUST be 18 years or older to join.
2) Character profiles must be written by the writer wishing to join the community.
3) This is a role play community, and we encourage all writers to post early and often. Posts can be in the form of journal entries, solo scenes, interactions with other characters in either threaded or 'joint post' form written in Google Docs or an IM client (if the latter, please post in paragraph form, no IM speak please). Basically anything goes!
If you are going to be unable to post for a significant length of time (longer than a week, say) please post an entry in OOC. We understand that everyone has a life outside of the community and things sometimes get busy, but have the courtesy of letting your fellow writers and the mods know if you have to take a break.
If a writer does not post at least once in a 30 day period and there has been no notice in the OOC that they will be away, they will be on probation and their characters will be on hiatus. If there have not been two posts within the following 30 days and there has been no communication with the mods, the writer will be dropped from the community and their canon characters will be open for others to take up.
4) Do not wait for someone to tell you what to do, be active! Take the initiative and write a post for your characters in action, there's a big fleet out there and surely something is going on. Even better, IM another writer and come up with a scene together. :)
All we ask is that if you come up with a big plot idea that will affect several characters, give the mods a heads up so we can discuss it with you, we might want to join in! In some cases we might ask that you post your idea in the OOC so that everyone has a chance to comment on it and offer suggestions.
5) The Moderators are the only ones who can initiate Cylon attacks upon the fleet.
If you want to write a Cylon sleeper agent in the fleet, or if you have an idea for a Cylon attack, let us know! We'd be happy to consider it and there's a good chance it would be approved, we just don't want Basestars dropping in willy-nilly. Think about how often the Cylons actually show up on BSG itself.
6) No destruction of ships in the fleet (i.e. you can't get a wild hair and blow up Rising Star like Ron Moore did to Cloud Nine). Damage to a ship that can be fixed is fine, as is the loss of small craft such as Vipers and Raptors, but if you want to do this in large numbers please check with a mod first so we can discuss the idea with you.
7) At least 1 out of 3 characters from one writer has to be the opposite sex. This is so we can have somewhat of a balanced population.
These rules will be enforced by the moderators. One violation will result in a warning, two and the writer will be on probation. After three violations the moderators reserve the right to ask the writer to leave. We don't want to be evil mods and will work with those willing to work with us.

Guidelines:
- Character interaction: If you want to interact with another writer's character, please contact them either through the OOC or by E-mail/IM and discuss your ideas with them. Please don't have your character interact with theirs without their permission.
- We strongly encourage use of third person in scenes. (Example: Kara walked into CIC and saluted Tigh.) Please do not use first person(Example: I walked into CIC and saluted Tigh) unless in something like a character journal entry.
- Out-of-character knowledge should not be used in-character unless your character is in a position to know certain things that others wouldn’t. Check with the writer in question if you think your character might know a secret of theirs before posting.
- Canon Characters: Kobol's Legacies is completely AU from canon. The only canon characters allowed are the Cylon models, and those would not be exactly the same as seen on the show. For example, instead of the Boomer or Athena versions we might see a different version of that same model eight. Check out the Humaniod Cylon article on the Battlestar Galactica Wiki if you have more questions about the Cylons.
- Original Characters: We love original characters, the more the better. They must fit into the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica universe, however, and must include a brief description of their background. There is a limit to pre-war relationships, and family relations surviving the attack on the Colonies. If you want your character to have living relatives from before the attacks, talk it over with the mods, if there is a believable way for this to have happened include it in the character profile.
- This community contains mature situations (violence and sexuality). When writing adult content (which we define as explicit, heavy violence or sexuality) please give careful thought regarding the language used and level of detail necessary.
Portions of scenes that contain explicit descriptions of sex or violence should be placed behind separate lj-cut tags with an appropriate, clear notification. For sexual content, please include the phrase 'Adult Content: Sexuality' in the cut-tag label. For violent content, use 'Adult Content: Violence'. A bolded label of *Begin/End Adult Content: Violence* or *Begin/End Adult Content: Sexuality* should appear within the text of the entry. - Entries should be spelling/grammar checked before posting. A random typo here and there's no big deal, but please make every effort to proofread your scene before posting.
- Plagiarism is not allowed. Please credit any text or plot ideas taken from another source. When possible, an effort should be made to credit graphics (i.e. as a courtesy, please credit your character icons).
